Jean Paul Gaultier - L'enfant Terrible
For the past few weeks Jean Paul Gaultier's name has been all over the news papers and everyone has been waiting for his exhibition in the Fine Arts Museum of Montreal... to open!!!
I was suppose to go see it today but unfortunately the line up was quite long and it seemed super busy...
So I'll wait when it's less crowded...
I would say that Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the first designers that I learned about and that I was able to remember... I'm quite terrible with names... anyways...
Born in 1952 in France... he started his career by sending out sketches to fashion designers in France... He then started to work closely with fashion designers and began to learn about this chaotic industry...
in 1976 he launched his first collection... and in 1981 his name started to gain recognition from the public... and he won the entitlement of " L'Enfant terrible" with his edgy and up hipster style he was able to caught people's eye... His designs were a combination of urban styles with pop culture...unlike other fashion designers he enjoyed integrating unconventional models in his runways...
Not only he was gaining recognition in the fashion industry but also main stream artists were desiring to wear his creations... his iconic cone bra was being show cased by Madonna... he later on worked on some designs for Marilyn Manson and Kylie Minogue...
He has also worked for a famous French label called Hermes (2003-2010).
Aside from clothes... Jean Paul Gaultier also created his own perfumes...
I'm truly excited to see his exhibition... I would have liked to meet him in person but I guess another time :)
On a personal note I truly enjoyed much more his creations done for Hermes.. I find his designs for his own label are rich in creativity but are not quite realistic... I find his designs are not as outstanding as they use to be... I hope this changes... because I think it's a bit early for his career to conclude...
