Holiday Fashion

(sweater from a random downtown Montreal shop / necklace :Winners)

(Sweater:Mango/ necklace: Zara)

(Sweater: BCBG / necklace: XXI)

During the holidays I'm a bit lazy in my wardrobe selections... I'm not a very girlie gal... I prefer some comfortable jeans (or even leggings) with a cosy heavy knit! Therefore I try to accessorize my outfits with a statement necklace or some nicely structured earrings! Lately I very much enjoy buying unconventional leggings (bi colors , Galaxy and leathers).... they are great replacements for those cold hard jeans!

As for my necklaces here are some of my favorites! I love them because they add structure, texture and color to an outfit. With these necklaces your face becomes the main focal point and people will forget that you're wearing leggings instead of a dress... This Canadian weather is rough and wearings skirts or dresses can be slightly a pain in the butt... So wear heavy knits with a statement necklace and a pair of comfortable leggings or a nice pair of patterned pants.
We can't wear pj's anymore but this is a great option to replace those uncomfortable Holiday dresses... :)

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas! Feliz Navidad!

(Classic sugar cookies)

traditional Portuguese Bread (some have baby jesus hidding in it ... similar to Panettone)

Merry Christmas!!! Feliz Navidad!!!

Last night I celebrated with my family Christmas!! We always celebrate on Christmas eve and stay up very late! We gather up and have dinner! We then eat more and more! Stuff ourselves with delightful sweets and we then play some games !
My family is very loud and we are always laughing!

Kids are running up and down anxiously waiting to open the gifts at midnight!
Throughout the night we eat a lot! From the traditional turkey to our traditional Latin sweets such as Flan and pan Dulce! For us Christmas is a time for family but also a time to remember the birth of our Lord. Contrary to some North American families we see each other quite often in the year for many other celebrations or sometimes Sunday dinners at my house with the grandparents... so for us this time of the year is much more than another family celebration but a time to be thankful for another year.

As you may see my family is quite big... Here you can see 3 generations of the Cerritos Family.
Happy Holidays!

End of the World

Today has been one of those days where you wonder "What on earth am I here for?"...It's in one of these solitary days I find myself puzzled and ironically mostly inspired by the great odds of life. Listening to "beautiful boy" by John Lennon and going through some family pictures brings back so many great childhood memories...It's amazing how time flies and how apparently our world will end in a couple of hours?!?...

(One second before awakening from a dream caused by the flight bee around a pomegranate 1944- Salvador Dali)

It's fascinating to witness the doubts and speculations people create around the thought that this world might come to an end... Ever since humanity realized that the Mayans created possibly THE most accurate calendars in our history...Endless hypothesis were born concerning the possible abrupt termination of this universe...

Although Mayan descents have clearly stated that this milestone if the closure to an important cycle; they have left an open question mark if this concurs to the beginning of a new era. Regardless of the scientific data on this subject the only reality we have is the present. I'm the worse person to suggest not to worry about the unexpected future events of our civilization but all I can say is to only take this time to realise all the great things you've accomplished in life.

( paintings-art.com)

Whenever my life feels upside down (as my current state of mind) I'm forced to flood my thoughts with all the great things I've achieved in these two decades of my life...Whether it was designing a beauty display for an influential brand or simply buying my own sewing machine... Just flipping through those thoughts makes me feel better about life.

(The temptation of St- Anthony
artgallery2000.com )

I grew up in a Baptist Christian family and knowing that we've all been given a living soul feeds my faith with hope that in end nothing matters if you've done everything with love. I would be shamefully lying to myself if I tell you that I feel at my best in life... Frankly I currently feel like I'm dragging a lame life but nevertheless I'm greatly thankful for having the best family. Their unconditional love and support is what keeps me rolling! Getting myself back on track and oiling my gears to a new cycle in life is all I'm trying to prep for! I rather see this "end of world" event as the rise of a new start.

So whether this planet will come to an end or not...simply think that you've accomplished A LOT simply by taking a breath... Life is an unexplainable journey and sometimes we try being our own gods rather than letting life take its course.

(I shared some images of Salvador Dali's painting because his art is a beautiful chaos where the main focal point relies in the small details ... such as life itself)

Christmas fashion inspiration

(Alexander Mcqueen)

(Chanel Makeup / Creatorsofdesire.com)

(Alexander Mcqueen/ Valentino)

(Dolce&Gabbana)

Sometimes I have to go back to the basics of blogging to get myself back on track... So after weeks of letting my blog get dusty in my computer files... I decided to show you guys some of my holiday inspirations... A lot of people go for the traditional red and green with some velvety texture... I prefer the edgy gold and silver metallic colors with lots of gem stones and bold accessories blended with some furry fluffy textures.

The holidays are truly the only time of the year that you can pull off a gold sequin blazer with a diamond statement necklace. I'm totally in love with these beautiful hair pieces for Christmas and those heavy earrings are simply stunning. I wish I could buy all of these pieces!!!

Dot & Lil lavender love

This summer I was introduced to Dot & lil products purely created and made in Montreal. I was quickly fascinated by the uniqueness of these adorable soaps and beauty care products.  It's fascinating the amount of detailing and thought that goes into these little goodies. There are endless scents, colors, textures and shapes; everyone is sure to find something! I also had the great chance to meet with Anne Dardick the master behind these unique products and I immediately sensed a lot of passion and devotion for her creations.

I love this Rosemary Lavender Soap!!! The lavender scent stays on you for hours!!! I usually shower at night and smelling the lavender on my arms while I lay on my bed simply knocks me off!!! This soap hasn't dried my skin and I just love the smell!!!

Sometimes I have a lot of trouble relaxing due to the countless thoughts that go through my brain but fortunately I was told that lavender is a great relaxer... and it's true! Lavender has been part of my sleeping routine ever since and it has tremendously helped me. I instantly became a Lavender guru and I've been trying various products that have this relaxing treasure but I'm very thankful to have bumped into these lavender goodies from Dot & lil .

With the weather changing my skin gets slightly dryer and sometimes it cracks... but this lavender and Shea body butter deeply moisturizes  my skin, especially my arms! It's truly miraculous! I love that it moisturizes my skin and the lavender scent relaxes me so MUCH! it's an aroma therapy!

I'm not only obsessed with lavender products but also with lavender in it's NATURAL state...
Dot & lil has these adorable lavender sachets that you can use to decorate your bath or rub the pouch  in your hands before going to bed ( smells your hands! It will relax you! ) Just like I do! OR you can use the Lavender inside for a lavishing facial :)

It's absolutely simple to make this scrub facial at home!
 You need :

-1/2 cup of oatmeal
- 1/2 cup of lavender
- 2 tablespoon of honey
-4 drops of lavender oil (optional)

You can add a bit of water or milk to make it less sticky or depending on the desired consistency (optional)

Mix it all and voila!!!

Apply it on your face and scrub for 1 minute you may leave it on for a maximum of 15 minutes
and then gently remove it with a warm damped cloth or towel. This scrub is good to repeat once a week maximum! Lavender is great to relax! Oatmeal will sooth your skin and honey has natural anti-bacterial properties!

I'm truly fascinated with these lavender goodies! I have everything to keep my skin beautiful and healthy!

What is your type?

The market is flooded with books, articles and magazines that tell women "how to find the right match" but very few will talk about the after math of the unexpected events. One thing I've learned from my strangely fascinating love life is that unfortunately guys are the most unreliable creatures on this planet. As blunt as my  statement may sound it's the cruel reality of the facts...Their unreliability is subsequent to their inability to channel their feelings and express in a proper way their emotions.

For the past 2 years I've had no luck or horrid luck on meeting decent fellows and with such love record my friends keep asking me "what is your type" ?...Aside from questioning the fact that my friends are worried about my love life what truly puts the interrogation mark in mind is the question itself... "what is my type"?
I wonder who the hell invented the different variations of "types"... I find that types can be compared to styles in fashion because it's hard to specify a certain style and categorize that this and that person have these styles...

When someone asks me "what is your style" I'm as lost as when someone asks me "what is your type of guy"... I don't have a style I just wear what I like and I like what I wear... I wear whatever suits me and feels good to my skin... and I think the same principle applies to "what is my type "... I don't have a type but as any other girl I'm equipped with a sixth sense that tells me if it has clicked or not....

I don't have a "type" but whenever I don't like the guy I'm fully aware that he is not my type... I've recently realised that when things don't work out with someone it's not my heart that is broken but my ego... Because I may not have been into this guy but because he cut me off I'm hurt... I guess it's slightly comforting to know that I'm not upset over a guy but that my ego is hurt... although no guy is worth getting your ego bruised.

My dating journeys always (until now) ends on a black hole note but after wandering in these love mazes I always learn something and this time I've learned to listen to my intuition more than anything. There is a reason why red flags exist! I mean a mate with two cats and en e-bike... now that's a red flag my dears...

Top 5 High Fashion Spring 2013

Every Fashion Week comes with a wave of expectations and is then left with a shore of criticism.  There are numerous things I could say about each designer but for now I will avoid the "bad guy" label and simply comment on the good aspects of these upcoming collections. Therefore I've chosen my Top 5 Designers for Spring 2013 from New York to Paris.

Oscar De La Renta

Dominican designer, Oscar De La Renta is continuously innovative yet always maintaining elegance as one of his top design criteria. Spring 2013 is set to be classy yet a bit edgy but forever chic! An absolute divine combination of textures from striking electric blue leather to the unforgettable classic black lace. Above all the true "WOW" factor of this collection is the unexpected touch of surprise with those fuchsia accents and vibrant red accessories.

John Richmond

This British rocker has truly found his fashion home in Milano. John Richmond is ultimately the Rock star in the runway! The Parisian fashion house Balmain is known for its edgy accents but John Richmond wins my heart with his casual yet very elegant creations. Always refining and adapting his style from season to season. This upcoming spring carries a lot of cut patterned pieces with the classic touch of gold combined with bold colors such as white, black and red.

Burberry Prorsum

Far from it's traditional burgundy and trench coats Burberry Prorsum set the bar a bit higher for others with this out of space metallic fabric foil at London Fashion week. Every single piece is different in all angles from their patterns, cuts and accents. At every movement the pieces give various reflections and shades, it's absolutely stunning! I cannot wait for next spring!

Giambattista Valli

This Italian designer is not only fresh and innovative but is continuously maintaining an elegant line in every single piece. The details in the cuts, textures and colors is absolutely beautiful. This is the simplest collections of my Top 5 choices but is by far one of the richest in textures and contrast.

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen is one of the most theatrical fashion houses in the industry. This British fashion house has still been sailing quite well with head designer Sarah Burton.  I'm normally not fond of this type of fashion because I believe it should always be functional and relatively wearable but this collection has really taken my attention. I love when designers take an idea and shape it to their style because it's a bit painful to see a collection that is all over the place and does not have a thematic. This collection is a true buzzzzz.... The honeycomb pattern literally gives structure to these pieces but also elaborates in the idea that as small as can bees are they can build an empire and this theme is clearly seen in every piece. From Corsets to dresses, hats and those killer shoes!

Look of the day: Night Fall

(my new shoes by mel)

(My love rings)

Hello!!!

I'm so excited to finally share a fall "look of the day" with all of you!!!
It's been quite crazy these days with a new job and some friendship issues but in the end life goes on and you can only move forward there is no rewind play on our life record. I'm so happy with the way these pictures turned out! I'm completely obsessed with knits because I love the texture they give to an outfit. They are simple yet they give a statement to your look. I also added an olive tweed jacket  to give some layer to my outfit and also some color! One of the things I love the most about fall is layering and adding texture to every single layer! I not only played with textures in this outfit but also with colors and patterns. As a glamour touch I wore my new glittery Mel shoes :)

Don't be afraid to mix and match!

High School Fashion

I think we can all agree on the fact that we have come a long way from our high school trends. I attended high school from 2002 to 2007 and I truly cherish those memorable experiences. As a teenager you travel in this chaotic identity journey all while seeing your body change and a good dose of hormones kicking in.. In the meantime, all of this identity battle is reflected in your clothes... I'm sure I'm not the only one that has drastically changed her fashion habits since High school... And as a tribute to my great years in high school I wanted to write about these unforgettable fashion trends (from my generation) and simply take a look back on how fashion has evolved...

The jeans!!! From bell cuts to skinnies and ripped faded colored jeans... in high school I saw them all!!! The tighter the better! All girls would wear super tight jeans... Oh and let's not forget about those supper accessorized jeans pockets with "cool" designs to attract the boy's attention... 95% of the girls would wear jeans... and later on came along the fabulous leggings... like I said the tighter the better!

Back in high school sneakers were very trendy... it was quite rare to see girls in heels... sneakers were a great way to reflect what type of style you had... some liked skater shoes... others would go with some classic converse and some other shoes were simply "IN" ... such as Phat Farm sneakers... or those memorable boxing shoes... Everyone showed their inner character through their sneakers!

As a teenager you're easily influenced by your greatest music icons... Back in High school I clearly remember two of the biggest style groups were either "RAPPERS" or "SKATERS"... the people in between were either nerds... preppies... sporties... or loners...  In my early years in High school I sort of identified myself a bit more with the rap influence... with matching colored workout suits and some army camouflage prints... One of those trends I still remember was the time when everyone wanted a pair of those "JENNY FROM THE BLOCK" construction boots!

When you're a teenager you believe in the idea that the more the better... and accessories truly reflected this theory... There was a time when everyone had a bandanna... on their wrist, on their hair or simply tucked in the back jean's pocket. After the Tsunami hit on the shores of Thailand.... the big wave of colorful rubber bracelets came IN fashion... Everyone had one... from breast cancer to livestrong... This trends then evolved to World Cup fanatics... For those that had a more skater orientation the checkered belts were tied down to the skinny jeans and for some preppies the Van Dutch truck hat was always on their heads...

The list is endless... I could go on and on about these trends... I had to basically cut everything down to the ones that I've kept in my fashion brain archive!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post on some High school trends (from my generation)! I must thank Baby Phat, Vans, Dickies and converse for guiding me through my own fashion trends :) I'm glad my style has evolved!

So have I changed?

:)

Have a great weekend!!
