Sophia Webster

Flamingos anyone? Sometimes I think I should have started a blog on shoes (only)...I never get tired of writing and talking about these beauties. There is something magical about shoes that make you dream and travel to unimaginable places (or maybe that is only in my mind). While searching for some interesting shoes to "pin" on Pinterest, I found these unique shoes. Designer Sophia Webster is the mastermind behind these unconventional shoes. After graduating in 2010, she became assistant designer for Nicholas Kirkwood and has now launched her own line. Pitching designs that are very youthful, fresh, magnetic and out of the box! Her designs are very clever and childlike yet elegant and sophisticated. These designs are quite reminiscent to Moschino Cheap and Chic style but with a different twist. Although, they are now many playful designers in the market, I do sense something edgy from Sophia Webster and I'm looking forward to her future designs. I'm also very glad to see that these shoes are not THAT expensive in comparison to other upscale shoe designers. Two thumb-ups for young designer Sophia Webster for cherishing the inner child in us!

Swims / Palladium fall 2013 presentation

Underneath SWIMS loafers

This week I was cordially invited to attend the private presentation of two great shoe brands, one of them being Swims. This Norwegian brand is renown for redesigning the traditional galosh by combining innovation with style. Swims has properly applied the design methodology of "form follows function" with their lightweight, versatile and water resistant footwear. They offer a wide range of styles with classic and vibrant colors to fit everyone's character. Throughout the presentation, I was truly fascinated by the quality and the seamless structure of their shoes. Part of this collection has been fully designed by Catherine Meuter, former designer at Giorgio Armani. She has kept the simplicity of their classic galosh and has extended their style to an actual shoe line. Swims is a playful yet functional and very Scandinavian style! I also took a picture of their 48 HRS BAG, which I think would be very handy for those casual escapes to New York City!

I also assisted to Palladium's presentations which left me very impressed with the level of quality and thought that has been put into these shoes! Palladium was founded in 1920 as an aircraft tires company, their specialty was to manufacture durable rubber tires. However, when the second World War was over they were left out of business and in 1949 they began to produce boots that were heavy duty with a distinguished rubber pattern underneath which became their style's emblem . This French company has establish itself as one of the most durable and functional footwear within the shoe industry. Palladium caters both to the rustic worldwide explorer and to the urban  day to day commuter. Their shoes are fully designed in California, combining  engineered materials with functional shoe structures. Overall, they offer a wide range of styles at an affordable price!

Shoe Orgasm (pt.1)

Don't you love the color!!! Last week I helped check off my sister's "shoe shopping" task on her to do list (yes, shoes are part of our schedule). With time my sister and I have become extremely selective and analytical in everything regarding our shoes. We will take in consideration materials, design, manufacturer and even exclusivity in our shoe criteria.

I've decided to start a new series called "SHOE ORGASM"! I find there is something very magical about shoes that give you an indescribable feeling when you first wear your favorite pair (or brand new ones). It's a feeling quite similar to an orgasm... without the moans and screams of course but it's an unexplainable sensation. My addiction to shoes and continuous hunger for them is far from being similar to my sexual life... I would like to focus more on that supreme joy of wearing new shoes. The power that a pair can bring to your day to day boost and the level of happiness they can bring to your life. Shoes are mystical and can transform your gloomy day to a pumped up and sexy cocktail night out. As for this first post just enjoy my coveteur inspired pictures taken with my new camera :)

Look of the day: Spring time!

Spring is finally here! After a crazy and random snowstorm, we are done with this winter nightmare! I can now take pictures outside without freezing my butt! Although, I've shown this jacket in a previous post I really wanted to take it outside for the first time! I also wanted to show off my sweet and beautiful boots from Minelli! I'm truly in love with this brand, because it only carries shoes that are made in Italy, Portugal and Brazil (my dream come true!) I could have probably bought a similar style at a cheaper store but for a few dollars more I have a pair that is real leather and unique. Minelli carries well made shoes in a small selection of sizes (aka very few people in Montreal will wear the shoes you have!)

I must admit that I've been cheating on my "no shopping" lifestyle... I just can't help myself! This month I've bought two pairs of shoes... and that is enough until summer... I REALLY have to start saving if I ever want to pursue my dream! These past few days my life has been up and down (the usual) but I'm starting to feel the pressure to challenge myself more in design... Sometimes I feel so lame to not be in school and to be working in an unrelated career job... However, I'm working and saving some money for my future plans.
Right now all I want is to keep searching and updating my portfolio!!!

Fashion Blog Photography Tips

Many people wonder "how the hell" bloggers take pictures...Well here are some options that most bloggers will consider in their photography choices.

I also hope that this post will be helpful for those bloggers that are initiating in the social media chaos and are questioning themselves on which option to take... By all means you must consider your current situation in therms of what kind of blog do you have and how much are you willing to invest... Some of these factors might also be variable depending on contacts and luck...

Most starting bloggers will opt for the tripod and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this option. However, it can be tricky and sometimes slightly embarrassing. Personally, I've been using the tripod since the very beginning and at times you feel like a crazy person running back and forth to check if your 10 second snap has been "the shot" you were hoping for. It's not easy to use a tripod on the outdoors because it's hard to focus and adjust the lighting on your own... it's honestly an amazing option for indoors and even better if you have a grey or white backdrop! Tripods are also very useful for the "shy bloggers" (those that are not fully comfortable with photographers). Nowadays, there are many types of tripods in the market that are tailored for your needs and budget.

At times when I get frustrated from using my tripod, I've asked my sister, friends even my dad to take pictures of me. It's really hard to find someone that is non professional to have the patience and that is detail oriented to take nice shots. I've realised that some popular fashion bloggers have boyfriends... that take their pictures... I'm unsure if they're professional photographers but so far they've done an amazing job! A great example of this is renown Italian fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni of the Blonde Salad with her current boyfriend named Riccardo Pozzoli (above image). To tell you the truth I'm tremendously jealous of this girl for having a gorgeous photographer boyfriend with her at all times! Chiara's situation is quite exceptional but it would be the best according to me ;)

Photography Students/Amateur

Personally, I never had a photography student take pictures of me but last summer I had a photography passionate that was helping me out. It's never easy to find "the right" person because you are clueless to how skilled they are and you cannot be demanding because they are either unpaid or working for a low pay. I hate having people working for free because I know the feeling of it, however it's hard to put a price on pictures that are not "professional work". Then again, there are many photographers in Montreal that call themselves professional but have low knowledge on photoshop and are asking for 500$ for 6 pictures... It's honestly very hard to find a genuine photographer that is both skilled and professional. Bloggers can always do requests on craiglist or even facebook for occasional photography students that are interested in having a free model for their portfolio but like I said it's hard to find someone that is up for the task!

Fashion Photographer

The ideal would be to have a fashion photographer taking your pictures but then again we would have to question our contacts and our budget if necessary... Many popular fashion bloggers have become friends with renown photographers that are actually looking forward to snap a picture of them... But that is not the case for everyone... As mentioned previously many times by me that finding the right photographer is almost as hard as finding your future spouse. Not only you have to find a photographer but you also have to look for someone that is fashion oriented. Photographers like Bill Cunningham, Richard Evadon have path the way for the new photographers such as Terry Richardson or Scott Schuman (not that they are inexperienced) but as fashion changes, photography is evolving as well. Fashion photographers will master any outfit and will cut your head in a snap if it's necessary to capture the essence of that fabulous necklace.... I believe it would be any blogger's dream to have a fashion photographer at their disposal.
